How to check a game code's platform and region

A code that won't activate is the most common digital-gaming headache. Most problems come down to platform or region.
Platform
A Steam key won't work on Xbox, and a PlayStation code won't work on Switch. Product pages should say exactly where the code activates.
Region
Some codes only work in specific regions. For UK accounts, look for 'UK', 'EU' or 'Global' and avoid codes locked to other regions.
